In the excerpts from last July 2019, Unearthing channelled the energies of The Divine Feminine and her Crone aspect. Below is a writing I found on the web called The Too Much Woman that strikes a related chord..
“I want a lot—justice, sincerity, spaciousness, ease, intimacy, actualization, respect, to be seen, to be understood, your undivided attention, and all of your promises to be kept.
I’ve been called high maintenance because I want what I want, and intimidating because of the space I occupy. I’ve been called selfish because I am self-loving. I’ve been called a witch because I know how to heal myself.
And still. . . I rise. Still, I want and feel and ask and risk and take up space.
I must.
Us Too Much Women have been facing extermination for centuries—we are so afraid of her, terrified of her big presence, of the way she commands respect and wields the truth of her feelings. We’ve been trying to stifle the Too Much Woman for ions—in our sisters, in our wives, in our daughters. And even now, even today, we shame the Too Much Woman for her bigness, for her wanting, for her passionate nature.
And still. . . she thrives.
In my own world and before my very eyes, I am witnessing the reclamation and rising up of the Too Much Woman. That Too Much Woman is also known to some as Wild Woman or the Divine Feminine. In any case, she is me, she is you... Do not be afraid of this gift, and let no one shy you away from it. Your too much-ness is magic, is medicine. It can change the world.” - Ev’Yan Whitney

July, 2019— when Daloy Dance Company re-worked Unearthing and showed an excerpt at Ballet Phils 50th Anniversary at The Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theatre and also Polecats MNL’ production of ‘Stellar’
Dancers: Jomarie Cruz, Buboy Raquitico, Julienne Depatillo, Kennard Insigne, Joy Christian Adorable, Jamie Paraiso, Arcelyn Lualhati, Deborah Lemuel, Jan Lloyd Celecio
The process of Unearthing began four years ago, when the piece was commissioned as part of Sipat Lawin's Karnabal Festival for Social Performance Innovation and developed subsequently over the next two years in festivals and performance series around Manila and across Japan. The work is a choreographic exploration into the relationship between the carnal and the spiritual, the sacred and the sexual. Through intuitive movement investigations into first the sensuous, then the ecstatic, and finally, the mythic; Ea Torrado and Daloy's corps of dancers have assembled a fierce and primal homage to the filipino babaylan (the balance-bringing shaman-priestess) and to the ancient wisdom of the Sacred Feminine. The dance pushes pleasure forward unabashedly, pulling the dancers through a tantric spectrum of frenzied somatic release.
Unearthing transforms performance into community ritual, foregrounding the social being as a sacred being.
